The second concerns quivers, which are very nice combinatorial objects (just directed multigraphs), and their representations, which are very nice linear-algebraic objects. Although powerful techniques may be brought to bear on these objects, many of the basic definitions and theorems concerning quivers and their representations can be explained to an advanced undergraduate. Therefore, I believe they could provide a rich source for undergraduate research.
